You can throw in Tim Ream, Jay Rodriguez, Marvin Sordell, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, Nedum Onuoha, Richard Dunne, Raheem Sterling and Jon Flanagan.

Tim Ream "seems" doable. What are our chances of him and Onuoha?

Not sure of the other names. Dunne is older and expensive, I'd think, and I've heard of Jay Martinez but his name is the only familiar thing about him to me.

I have absolutely no idea what our chances of anyone are, to be honest.

I'd like them both, for a number of reasons. One is that Onuoha is a competent right back, and lightning fast - which we need in that position. The other is that Onuoha knows this league and Ream doesn't. Whilst Ream may be talented, he has no experience at this level and that would worry me.

However, I'm not sure we have the cash.

Don't you realise that some of us are still of an impressionable age?

I think ,from what I've seen and heard, that Ream is solid at the back and can be trusted with a certain amount of responsibility. However, I agree that if we can we should get Onouha. But that doesn't solve our problems because I think we still need a young attacking player like Jay Rodrigez or that African guy that sky sports says we're interested in.

Is he called Boffa, a Ghanaian? Might be ok, hopefully has lots of pace.
Is it the Rodriguez who plays/played for Porto?

No, it's Jay Rodriguez who plays for Burnley. He's the brother of Teek Rodriquez.

Porto v. Burnley! Just our luck that the one we are after is from the lesser of the two clubs.

The bigwigs have met up and decided how much they are giving to Coyle to spend. Based on a couple of articles, it looks like we are after a CB, LB, midfielder(to play where??) and possibly a striker.

Possibly 4 players to bring in from the money we make out of the Cahill sale.
It doesn't say a lot for the quality that we can expect, does it?

Seems that Liverpool are also interested in Gary Cahill.
Could do with an early bidding war, and get him sold within the first few days of January.

As Andrew posted elsewhere, it appears that Stoke and some Championship clubs are interested in Paul Robinson...and we are willing to sell him rather than lose him on a free in the summer.

The new story (not a new link, but a stronger one than before) is that we are set to move for Bassong and Onuoha. If true, we'd be in with a shout for "all-time doziest BWFC back 4" - but we'd also be up for "all-time fastest back 4" too. Onuoha is easily the quickest defender in the league, and Bassong isn't far behind him for pace over 18 yards (though beyond that Onuoha is away and clear).

I'd actually be delighted to see those two show up, as I really rate both of them. They both have concentration issues, but anyone we sign will have problems attached. What they both are are great athletes, good on the ball, excellent tacklers and usually solid.

So, I'll be hoping those links aren't just fairy tales.

It's been in four papers: Mail, Telegraph, Mirror and Star.

I can't see us getting 3 defenders (I can barely see us getting 2).

IF Robinson leaves, do we have enough cover at RB? That's an iffy area. Not to mention the fact that Coyle can't make up his mind if he likes Steinsson or not.

Robinson doesn't affect right back, unless you mean it takes Ricketts to left back.

We'd have Riley and Steinsson as full-time right backs. We'd then have Boyata as an emergency option. IF we signed Onuoha, I'd say he'd be a right back option for us; as I don't think Coyle rates any of the players we have available and it would seem to be Onuoha plus a CB.

Interesting BBC article: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16237635.stm

Darron Gibson caught my eye - a definite goal-threat from midfield (strike-rate isn't great - *edit* actually it is, 37 starts for Utd with 10 goals and 7 assists - , but he makes the right runs).

Considering the state of our defence, I would say no. Onouha could play at RB and Ream is not a player who you can expect to make an immediate impact due to his age and inexperience at this level. Bassong and Onouha could both do a job straight away which would allow Ream to acclimatise to the country and to the league.

Then we can release Knight in the summer which I think we'd all welcome.

I can't see us bringing in three players though sadly. I think we'll sign Ream. If we can bring in either Bassong or Onouha as well, I'd be pleased.

Re: Transfer Rumours 1 month, 3 weeks ago #40339

With Tim Ream being the 'main man' this transfer window, it seems, due to the fact he's the cheapest and easiest option. I did some research on the American, just like I did Stu Holden, and let's face it, that came really good.

Ream (24) only made his MLS debut in 2010 but shocked mainly his own manager and got on the 'Rookie of the Year' list of 3, but didn't actually win it. Yes, he's essentially a centre half, but the major plus is that he's played left back for a couple of games, so if the worst comes to worse and Alonso and Ricketts gets injured again I'd be much happier with him slotting in at left back whilst Robinson is f**king up at Stoke!

He's disciplined, only having 4 yellow cards in his career with zero reds, and it's clear he's saving his goals for the English Premier League only scoring one so far. His tactical awareness and distribution of the ball made him stand out in the defence system of the NY Red Bulls which makes him the obvious replacement for Gary!

I like him, and for two million, why the hell not, I'd much rather have him than Richard Dunne, we already concede enough goals without Dunne chipping in with more!

Someone's taking the piss...surely:

"The second day of the January transfer window has passed and it certainly succeeded in courting controversy amongst Bolton fans.

Incomings and outgoings are expected at the Reebok Stadium this month and the rumours are filtering through from all over the world.

Monday's Wanderers transfer gossip involves Crawley Town and Real Madrid, two clubs that you are unlikely to hear paired together very often.

Before we get to those, let's take a look at the one rumour which sparked the most controversy with the Trotters faithful on Monday.

According to @Transfer_Talk on Twitter, Mark Davies is set to seal a loan move to Hull City.

The Tigers currently occupy a play-off position in the Championship and will be hoping to achieve promotion back to the Premier League, two years after dropping out of the division.

A move would come as a major surprise, though, with Davies established in the Bolton first team. The likeliness of this happening looks very doubtful.

One player who looks certain to leave Bolton this month is Gary Cahill. Wanderers are known to be in the market for a central defender, but who would have thought Cahill's replacement could possibly come from Crawley Town?

The Sun seem to think it could be possible, with Red Devils' Kyle McFadzean being linked with a switch to the Reebok Stadium.

McFadzean made his professional debut for Sheffield United at the age of 18 but failed to become a regular at Bramall Lane before moving on to Alfreton Town and then Crawley in August 2010.

Meanwhile, reports in Yorkshire are emerging that both Bolton and Arsenal are interested in signing Leeds United's Aidy White.

The Scratching Shed report that the two clubs have offered pre-contracts to the 20-year-old, who turned down an offer of a four-year contract at Elland Road just last month.

Finally, Bolton have had successful dealings with Real Madrid in previous years. The likes of Ivan Campo, Fernando Hierro, Rodrigo Moreno and Marcos Alonso have all swapped the Bernabeu for the Reebok Stadium, but could Jese Rodriguez be next in line.

Rodriguez has been with the European giants since 2007 and after progressing through the youth system in Madrid, the 18-year-old made his senior debut for Jose Mourinho's side in last month's Copa del Rey tie against SD Ponferradina.

FootballPress.net believe Wanderers could once again strike a deal with the nine time European champions, with Rodriguez joining the club on loan until the end of the season."

I thought we were signing somebody from Burnley with a wooden leg and a parrot.

Unfortunately not, but according to mark Curtis' spokesman, one Phillip gartside, people in football will understand why the parrot (siegfried), is just the right avian for this type of situation and will without further adue be appointed the new manager. Mr Curtis' spokesman refused to comment on rumours that siegfried was in fact his bastered ginger son or that on discovering this the cockatoo who had also applied for the job walked out.

I hear Andy Carroll is back on the market, we need a replacement for Kevin Davies, right!?

Carroll? Do you have the spare millions?

Re: Transfer Rumours 1 month, 2 weeks ago #40527

www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football...lton-approach-zamora

This is a shame, we need a striker with a proven PL goalscoring record, powerful, intelligent, the ability to score a goal out of anything, something we haven't got in ANY if our strikers at the moment. N'Gog needs to ball on a plate, Klasnic seems to only score from within spitting distance from the goal (which would be okay, if we had more than one creative player in the team) and Davies, well the ability to run is required in the PL no matter what anyone says.

Anybody hear of any other strikers that we're looking at? Please.
